Housing Lottery 2006
It is time to find your home for next year! The Housing Lottery is open to all returning residential students, so make sure you read the following information carefully.
WHO NEEDS TO PARTICIPATE IN THE LOTTERY?
§ All current first-year students who will return in fall 2006
§ Any current residential student who wishes to live on campus next year.
RULES FOR THE HOUSING LOTTERY SELECTION PROCESS
In order to participate in the Housing Lottery, you must submit the following:
1. Housing Contract: Delivered to the Housing Office by Monday, April 3.
2. $100 housing deposit: Paid at the Business Office by Monday, April 3.
3. Any other forms that pertain to your room selection for squatters and single rooms; see below and on other side.
Students who do not submit all the required information by Monday, April 3, cannot participate in the initial Housing Lottery. These students will be placed on a waiting list and will be assigned rooms by the Housing Office as rooms become available.
WHAT IF I WANT TO KEEP MY SAME ROOM?
Students who wish to keep the same room for next year (“squat”), must fill out the Squatter’s Form that can be found in the Housing Office. Please note: Not all students will be able to squat rooms.
The following students may submit a request to squat for this year’s lottery...
§ Current first-year residential students in University Inn or Edwards
§ Returning residential student in Edwards, Romine or the UI fourth floor
In order to squat a room, one of the following must be true...
§ Both squatters are current residents of the desired room
§ One squatter is a current resident of the squatted room and will pull in a roommate. The roommate who is not squatting must sign the Squatter’s Form relinquishing the right to squat the current room.
The number of rooms that can be squatted are limited and as a result the approval process is by a first come first serve basis. Priority will be given to those in which the order of the forms are received and notification will be sent out via e-mail on Monday, April 10.
WHAT IF I WANT A SINGLE ROOM?
A Single Room Request Application must be filled out and submitted to the Housing Office by Monday, April 3. Single rooms are only offered in Romine and in designated rooms in Edwards to non-traditional (students over the age of 25), doctoral and graduate students. Students will receive e-mail notification if eligible for a single room. Eligible students will then be invited to participate in the Single Room Lottery on Wednesday, April 12, to pick a desired room. There is an additional $250 per semester charge for single rooms.
Students who do not meet the eligibility requirements will be asked to participate in the regular Housing Lottery process. Only students who currently have a designated single room in Romine or Edwards may qualify to “squat” their room for next year. Contact the Housing Office to ask if your room qualifies. If your room qualifies, follow the instructions for squatting a room.
HOW DOES THE HOUSING LOTTERY WORK?
The Housing Lottery is open to all returning residential students. All current first-year students are required to participate in the Housing Lottery and must follow the application procedures. All other students who wish to live on campus must fill out the required information as well.
Lottery numbers are assigned to students based on the number of credits earned at the time of the lottery and date of materials received. Credits that are currently being attempted are not counted toward the total. Students with the same number of credits are sorted and assigned according to the date of materials received. Please turn in all your information
as soon as possible.
Students will receive Room Reservation Cards via campus mail and e-mail after all materials are received and confirmed. Room Reservation cards will tell you what time to report to the Parker Hall lounge, located on the ground floor of Parker Hall, where you will pick your room with your prospective roommate. Both roommates should be present to sign up for a room. However; if one roommate cannot attend, the other roommate must give a signed Roommate Proxy Form to the Housing Office by Monday, April 3. If both roommates are unable to attend the Housing Lottery, a designated person can be chosen to select a room for the absent roommates after the Roommate Proxy Form is approved by the Housing Office.
WHAT IF I WANT TO LIVE OFF CAMPUS?
First- and second-year students are required to live on campus. However, all other students are permitted to move
off campus. All current first-year students are required to participate in the Housing Lottery. Students who are required to live on campus but do not attend the Housing Lottery will be assigned a room by the Housing Office and billed room-and-board charges plus a standard 15-meal plan.
