How to get to SU

There's more to school than just work!

Residential life encourages student involvement in the university community, increased out of class learning, and engagement in the learning process with peers, faculty and administrators.  Through involvement with residence life, students experience academic, social, emotional and cultural growth leading to richer collegiate experiences.

Research indicates that the first two years are critical to students’ integration into the academic community.

SU Residency Requirements

All full-time undergraduate students enrolled at the Winchester campus are required to live in university residence halls for the duration of their first and second year at Shenandoah University*.  Transfer students with less than 36 credit hours when they enter the university are required to live on campus.

There is no residency requirement for students enrolled at the Leesburg campus.

*Exceptions to this requirement will be available only if students are:

  • Living with parents or legal guardians and commuting to campus.

  • Married, living with spouse.

  • Twenty-two years of age, or older (on the first day of the semester of application).

.* Exemptions will be made by the VP for Student Affairs, but must be requested in writing.  Written requests for exception must be received in the Student Affairs Office no later than 30 days prior to the first day of classes in the semester that students are applying to live off campus. Waiver requests should include verification of the required conditions.

Please direct all questions to the Department of Residence Life.
