RESIDENCE LIFE:
LIVING AND LEARNING AT SU
The Residence Life Office
provides a wide array of social, educational, cultural, and leadership
opportunities within the halls.
The residence staff
assesses residents' needs and invites speakers, coordinates trips to local
sites, and organizes regular social activities.
The Residence Hall Council
elects representatives from each hall to serve as a governing council for the
hall. Dues are collected during orientation in the fall. They provide
activities, determine how public area space is used, and make recommendations
regarding policies and procedures.
WHO IS THE RESIDENCE
LIFE STAFF?
Each residence hall has a
live-in Resident Director (RD). The RD is a part-time professional that is
trained to help make your residence hall experience a rewarding one. Each RD
supervises a staff of Resident Assistants (RA). RAs are responsible for
coordinating activities and programs in the hall; serving a resource person,
counselor, administrator and friend; and acting as a disciplinarian agent when
necessarry.
The University believes
that it is important for the students to have ready access to persons who can
assist students in the variety of day-to-day concerns and problems of residence
hall life. In general, RAs are to aid students in problem-solving by being
familiar with the various University programs, regulations, social and academic
programs, and procedures. RAs have the responsibility to assist students in
participating in intramurals, to convey information about the University
activities, to maintain a satisfactory living/learning environment in the
residence hall, to prevent property damage, and to ascertain responsibility for
damage when it occurs in the hall.
