Yes. However, you must be sure to register your car. Once you register your car you will be issued a colored parking permit. The color of your permit directs you to the lots you are permitted to park in. Permits are $110 per academic year.

What is the difference between a traditional residence hall and a suite-style residence hall?
Residents living in a traditional hall share floor bathrooms and showers. In a suite-style hall specific residents are assigned to share a bathroom not accessible by the rest of the hall’s residents.
Will my room have its own telephone number?
Yes, most rooms have one phone line for you and your roommate to share. There is a fee of $50 to activate this phone line (usually roommates split the cost). Voice mail is provided by SU at no extra cost however, you will need to bring your own phone.
What dining options are available to me?
New students can choose between the 19-meals or 15-meals-a-week plan. In addition to the $50 credit limit per semester a meal equivalency can also be used in the Hornet Grille found in the Wilkins Student Center.
Yes, all students enrolled at the University will be assigned an email account and are asked to use it as their primary account.

Am I responsible for cleaning my room?
You and your roommate are responsible for the upkeep of your room. This includes taking out the trash. A member of the custodial staff maintains community bathrooms.
Yes, lofts are permitted. They must be free-standing and treated with fire resistant materials. It is best to build a loft that accommodates our bed frame(s) because all furniture must remain in the room.
How safe are the residence halls and campus?
Residence halls’ exterior doors are locked 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, you must use your SU Hornet ID card to enter. A security phone is located at the entrance of each hall for your convenience. Security staff is on duty 24 hours a day. They can be contacted by cellular phone at any time of the day or night.
The best way to keep you and your possessions safe on campus is to keep your room door locked at all times. We recommend that you also not walk alone after dark and never prop exterior doors. Remember: safety and security is everyone's responsibility.
What are the visitation hours?
Each residence hall votes at the beginning of the school year for their visitation hours. Visitation hours are set-up within the following guidelines:
Sunday through Thursday .... 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
Friday & Saturday .... to be determine by roommates
Residence Hall lounge hours are also voted on at this time. Lounge hours can be the same as the visitation hours or open 24 hours.
You must fill out the on-line Housing Preference form. We take into consideration - smoker, quiet, personal study habits, and personal life-style. We try to match you with a roommate who appears to be most suitable to your habits. You will receive your housing assignment along with your roommate's name and address during the first part of August.
What do I do if I don’t get along with my roommate?
Communication is essential to developing a relationship with your roommate. We encourage you to discuss any problems or concerns you may have. If communication does not work your Resident Assistant and Residence Director are available to assist you.
No room changes are permitted the first 2 weeks of school. After that you will need to pick up a Room Change Form from the Residence Life Office and meet with your roommate in the presence of a Residence Life staff member to discuss your reasons for wanting to change rooms. If no spaces are available, it will be up to you to find another student willing to swap rooms. Room changes that occur without Residence Life approval will result in disciplinary action.
Most of the residence hall rooms at SU are double occupancy. For these double rooms, If a roommate has not been assigned SU reserves the right to assign someone to that room at any time during the year.
SU has approximately 85 single spaces available to upperclassmen and graduates.
May I have a friend stay overnight?
Yes, residents may have overnight guest of the same sex. All overnight
guests are to be invited guests of residents. Each guest must complete a
guest-pass which is available from the Resident Director. Guests may not
reside on campus for more than three nights per semester and are expected to
adhere to University regulations while visiting campus. Residents are
responsible for the conduct of their guests.
May I store my belongings on campus?
During all breaks you may leave your belongings in your room. During the summer, all belongings must be removed. Items left in the halls will be disposed of 5 days following the end of school. We have no storage space beyond what is available in your student room.
May I stay in my room during breaks?
Residence halls and the Dining Hall are closed during breaks. They usually reopen for breakfast the day classes begin. Due to security, no one will be allowed to stay on campus during vacation periods (unless specifically approved in advance). The maintenance department also uses this time to do repairs on the buildings which include water shutoffs, carpet cleaning, etc. Students who do not have a specific academic or travel reason for staying on campus should make other arrangements if housing is needed during this time. Students must vacate their rooms 24 hours after their last exam.
Quiet hours have been instituted to foster a conducive
learning environment. Residence hall quiet hours will be in effect during
the following times:
Sunday through Friday morning 10:00 pm - 10:00 am
Saturday through Sunday 2:00 am - 10:00 am
Whenever quiet hours are not in effect, a policy of courtesy hours will be enforced. The purpose of courtesy hours is to make each student responsible for the environment in the residence halls.
May I play an instrument in my room?
Sorry, No. Practice rooms are located in Ruebush Hall.
May staff enter my room without my
permission?
The Student Handbook gives the answer in detail. Briefly, a student’s
room can be entered by staff for the following reasons:
1. Maintenance Repair
2. Violation of University Regulations or Civil Law
3. Hall Closings
4. Emergency Situations
5. Fire Drills
What happens when I am present and
someone violates a policy?
Any student who is aware that a violation of a University policy or civil
law is about to occur or is occurring and who fails to make some reasonable
effort to stop the offense or notify a University staff member will be
considered as a participant in the violation. Students have the
responsibility to report any policy violations of other students or staff
members. If you are aware of a policy violation, contact a staff member who
will instruct you on what to do.
