The Hornet Cheerleading team represents the spirit of Shenandoah University. The Cheerleaders are made of male and female members of the Shenandoah student body with different majors and backgrounds but the same love for Shenandoah University and the sport of cheerleading. Led by Coach Jennifer Strozier, the Hornet Cheerleaders are steadily improving and growing into a serious cheer program.
The Hornet Cheerleading team cheers and performs at all home football games and men and women's basketball games. At all games, the cheerleaders perform an entertaining halftime show with stunts, dance and cheer to today's popular music. To prepare for games and halftime shows, the Hornet cheerleaders practice twice a week with mandatory work-outs. This year we plan on adding a tumble-only practice to our schedule. In addition to gameday/sideline cheerleading, the Hornet Cheer Team plans to add competitive cheerleading to their duties.
This year the Hornet Cheerleaders hosted The "Little Hornet Cheer Camp," which allowed the cheerleaders to teach young cheerleaders in the Winchester community basic cheer, stunt and dance techniques. Participants in the camp also performed in a football halftime with the Hornet Cheerleaders to showcase what they learned over the week. The Hornet Cheerleaders plan to add this great event to their annual schedule.
The Hornet Cheerleading team continues to work at becoming one of the best teams to cheer for in our division. If you are interested in joining our cheer team or have any questions about our cheer program, please contact Coach Jenn. jstrozie@su.edu
