Dear Alumni, Faculty and Staff,
For the past two years, I have had the privilege of serving as president of the Shenandoah University Alumni Association. As I approach the end of my term, I have been reflecting on all of the wonderful experiences that I will cherish. I have had the opportunity to welcome incoming students on “Move-in Day” and participate in hooding and graduation ceremonies. I have attended board meetings, dedications, football games, performances and reunions. Just recently, I had the pleasure of joining fellow alumni at the Shenandoah Valley Music Festival in Orkney Springs, Virginia. We enjoyed a one-of-a-kind concert experience celebrating the music that defined the ’60s by Midtown Men. We also met backstage with J. Robert “Bobby” Spencer ’91, and his fellow Midtown Men Christian Hoff, Michael Longoria and Daniel Reichard.
Through all of this, I have gained a better understanding and appreciation for SU — the challenges and opportunities it faces; its goals for the future; how it carries out its mission; and the critical importance of alumni support. That’s why I will continue to serve as an ambassador for SU while out in the community and continue to encourage alumni to come back to SU whenever possible. For example, Homecoming on October 13-15 is a perfect time. There is an event for everyone including the Homecoming football game and tailgate party featuring music by “Threesound” with John Hayes ’15. Click HEREto register.
Also, the Alumni Association Board of Directors will hold their fall meeting during Homecoming and I will pass the gavel to Ashley Smith Warren ’07.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your president. It’s been a wonderful and memorable two years!
All the best,
Becky Merriner ’01
