Dear Alumni and Friends,
Fall semester 2018 is well underway as students, faculty and staff returned to campus the last week of August. And, there has been no shortage of activities thus far for students as well as alumni. On August 29, the Office of Alumni Affairs and Career Services held the first-ever Alumni Networking Reception. Nearly 70 senior students, alumni and faculty joined President Fitzsimmons at the Greene Turtle in Winchester to socialize and mingle. The event featured delicious food, great conversation and door prizes. All around, this was a fantastic event. In fact, just today, I received a handwritten thank you note from a senior student who is interested in pursuing a career in the physician assistant profession. She said it was so refreshing to meet someone who had been in her shoes (even if it was 11 years prior, but who’s counting??). She truly appreciated my time and advice. Kudos to both the Office of Alumni Affairs and Career Services for a job well done. I think everyone who attended can agree that the event was a major success. If you missed the event last month, be sure to mark your calendars for Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019, for the second Alumni Networking Reception, which will again be held at the Greene Turtle in Winchester, beginning at 5 p.m.
For me, fall is not only synonymous with cozy sweaters, boots and pumpkin spice, but also Homecoming and football. I’m sure you all have received a lot of communication about Homecoming Weekend and the various events we have planned. I look forward to seeing you on campus Friday, Oct. 5, through Sunday, Oct. 7! Be sure to visit https://www.su.edu/alumni/alumni-events/homecoming/ to register in advance, as the deadline to register is Wednesday, Oct. 3. Friday night features the Alumni Celebration Dinner, recognizing the 2018 Distinguished Alumni Award recipients as well as reunion classes. Saturday starts off with the first-ever Homecoming Alumni Golf Tournament at Rock Harbor, followed by football tailgate fun and the unveiling of the Buzzy Statue, and ends with the football game versus Hampden-Sydney at 1 p.m. There will be plenty of opportunities to reconnect with your SU family. We look forward to having you back on campus!
