Dear Fellow Alumni,
Greetings from Winchester! The hot and muggy days of July are upon us. Surely you remember the heat and humidity that is a hallmark of our area. If you ever spent a summer semester at SU, you’ll know what I am talking about!
As our area is beginning to open a little more, it is nice to be able to move about a little more freely while remaining safety conscious. Restaurants and shops are now serving inside and outside. I was in Target yesterday and noticed an entire aisle of stocked paper goods that were previously unavailable. I hope the same is true for you wherever you live. For many of us, the past few months have been difficult, and we are anxious about the future. Spending time with family and friends (safely, of course) has really helped our family cope with the pandemic. An avid reader, I have used this time to not only catch up on my reading, but to explore a new series or two. Reconnecting with old friends and classmates has been great and we check in with each other regularly.
The SU campus is quiet. However, much activity is going on behind the scenes. The summer sessions are online and are in full swing. Everyone is preparing for the fall semester and the re-opening of our campus. The campus is open to walkers and as soon as the weather cools just a bit, I plan to walk those familiar paths. If your travels take you through Winchester, I encourage you to do the same!
Personally, I am looking forward to the beginning of the school year in whatever form that may take. The return to routine is important to me. Classrooms may look different for a while, but teachers will be teaching, and students will be learning.
As always, please read emails and articles sent by SU via email, snail mail, and on social media. They are your best source for information about what’s happening on main campus and elsewhere.
Please stay safe and stay well. Keep in touch and let us know how you are doing!
Best,
Susan Helsley
