Shenandoah Conservatory faculty members will kick off the “Conservatory in the Community” Concert Series at the Winchester Medical Center on Friday, Feb. 24.
Shenandoah Conservatory faculty members will kick off the “Conservatory in the Community” Concert Series at the Winchester Medical Center on Friday, Feb. 24. The mission of this performance series is to provide top quality music to the Winchester Community free of charge. Made possible in part by the generous donation of a Steinway piano to the Winchester Medical Center by Dr. Terry Sinclair, five concerts will be held this spring and will showcase a wide range of repertoire in both the classical and jazz genres. All concerts will take place in the North Tower Lobby of the Winchester Medical Center at 1840 Amherst Street in Winchester, Va. at 12:15 p.m.
- “Virtuosic Chamber Music” will feature works by Johann Hummel, Zoltan Kodaly, and Johannes Brahms. The following members of the Shenandoah Conservatory faculty will perform these pieces
- Dr. Michael Stepniak, dean of Shenandoah Conservatory, has performed in major venues worldwide and has played with some of the top performing ensembles including the Mendelssohn Piano Trio, National Philharmonic String Quartet, the Contemporary Music Forum, and the Razumovsky String Quartet
- Clyde Thomas Shaw, a founding member of the highly acclaimed Audubon String Quartet, has made nearly 2,000 appearances worldwide over the last three decade
- Doris Lederer, who was a member of Audubon Quartet for 35 years, has taught master classes at Cleveland Institute of Music, Eastman School of Music, Oberlin Conservatory and Shanghai and Beijing Conservatorie
- Akemi Takayama, who was a member of the Audubon Quartet for 14 years, is concertmaster of the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, Opera Roanoke and Williamsburg Symphonia
