Junior Music Production and Recording Technology (MPRT) student Courtney Roebuck recently had her article entitled “Percussion In The Dark: Nothing A Couple Of LEDs Can’t Fix” published on ProSoundWeb.com, the world’s largest web community for all aspects of the professional audio industry. The article discusses the creation and use of an LED light click track system for use during a Shenandoah University Percussion Ensemble performance of “Pika-Don” by American composer James Tenney. The piece is a musical representation of a percussion ensemble paired with prerecorded voiceover tracks of writings taken from the scientists at the first atomic bomb test, and from the survivors of the Hiroshima bombings.
Roebuck was put in charge of running the equipment for the performance and was told the project would be a great opportunity to write an article on. “I took it as sort of a challenge because I enjoy the live sound aspect of my major, but I am also excited to find new ways to experience a performance,” said Roebuck. She is extremely excited to be published on ProSoundWeb.com. “When I saw it, I immediately copied the link to an email and sent it to my parents. It gets my name out into the business, which is cool, but it is definitely something that I will be able to look back on and be proud of myself for.”
