– Shenandoah University’s Department of Institutional Computing has been named a winner of the Blackboard Catalyst Award for Mobile Innovation.
Shenandoah University’s Department of Institutional Computing has been named a winner of the Blackboard Catalyst Award for Mobile Innovation, which recognizes members of the community who have used mobile technology in a way that created a positive effect on student and learners’ educational experience. Winners are helping define the emerging field of mobile technology for use in and beyond the classroom.
“I am honored that our department has been chosen to receive the Blackboard Catalyst for Mobile Innovation for Campus Services Gold Award,” said Quaiser Absar, director for Institutional Computing at Shenandoah University. “This is a testament to the hard work and dedication our entire staff has to using Blackboard in new and creative ways, and giving our campus community an innovative mobile outlet for sharing their experiences at Shenandoah.”
Shenandoah University’s creation of the Xplore It portion of the Shenandoah University app, ShenandoahU, is at the heart of the Blackboard Catalyst Award for the university. Xplore It is a student uploader tool that Shenandoah University students use to post video assignments from class and/or personal projects. Videos are five minutes or less and demonstrate the ways Shenandoah students and faculty embrace the technical revolution.
The Mobile Innovation Award, which was created due to the rapid growth of mobile technology in education in recent years, is broken down into two subcategories: (1) Leadership in Mobile Teaching; and (2) Learning and Excellence in Mobile Application Development for Campus Services. Winners have committed themselves to formalizing, implementing and measuring the impact of mobile learning at their organizations and/or creating a truly unique campus service via a mobile platform.
The Blackboard Catalyst Awards program annually recognizes and honors innovation and excellence in the Blackboard global community of practice, where teachers and learners work every day to redefine what is possible when leveraging technology.
Shenandoah University’s Blackboard Systems Administrator Melissa Stange will accept the award on behalf of the Department of Institutional Computing alongside the five other Mobile Innovation winners during BbWorld®, Blackboard’s annual user conference to be held in July in New Orleans, La.
