Michael Funkhouser ’98, an English teacher at East Hardy High School in Hardy County, W.Va., was voted West Virginia’s 2013 Teacher of the Year. He and his wife, Ann, were presented $5,000 and a new Toyota by Gov. Earl Ray Tomlin last winter. Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield West Virginia also presented Funkhouser with a $5,000 check to spend as he wishes. Each year, Toyota donates a new car to the teacher of the year, who can use the vehicle for a year.
