Five students from Shenandoah University will participate in The Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges (VFIC) 15th annual statewide collegiate Wells Fargo Ethics Bowl on Sunday, Feb. 9, and Monday, Feb. 10, on the campus of Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va.
The Shenandoah team will compete head-to-head against other highly qualified student teams from Virginia’s 15 leading independent colleges and universities, debating a variety of case studies highlighting ethical dilemmas. The Shenandoah student team members are: Jenny Arens, senior; Thomas Arens, senior; TJ Chapman, senior; Lauren Fox, senior; and Mary Miller, junior. The team’s faculty coordinator is Barry Penn Hollar, Ph.D., chair of the Department of Religion and Philosophy.
Many notable personalities from business, law, education, finance, journalism and other fields will listen to team presentations and offer reactions to the students’ presentations.
The Ethics Bowl program will commence with an opening session on Sunday, Feb. 9, at 2:30 p.m. at Randolph-Macon College’s Blackwell Auditorium, with the first matches scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in the Brock Commons and Estes Dining Hall. On Monday, Feb. 10, rounds three and four will begin at 8:30 a.m.
The final round of competition will take place at 11 a.m. in Blackwell Auditorium. The public is invited to attend the match sessions free of charge. The winning team will be announced at 12:15 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 10. The team from Hampden-Sydney College took home the trophy at the 2013 Ethics Bowl after defeating Washington and Lee University in the final round.
