Miles K. Davis, Ph.D., dean of the Harry F. Byrd, Jr. School of Business, (above, left) has been selected as the recipient of the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution’s Silver Good Citizen Award for excellence in education, public service commitment, and community volunteerism.
On April 24, Dr. Davis was presented with a notification letter by Todd P. Golding, president of the Colonel James Wood II Chapter of the Virginia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (above, right).
“It’s good to be recognized, but I think you should do things because they should be done,” said Davis to his students who witnessed the letter presentation. “One of the lessons of this is, you never know who’s watching when you’re doing things. This was totally unexpected, but very much appreciated.”
The Silver Good Citizenship Medal was authorized by the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution in 1939 to recognize outstanding and unusual patriotic achievement and service at the state level. The medal is presented to persons of prominence in the areas of government, religion, education, business and the professions, and other appropriate fields of endeavor.
The Silver Good Citizenship Medal is the highest award that a chapter may present to a citizen. Davis’ selection was preceded by a rigorous nomination process that required approval by the Colonel James Wood II Chapter’s Board of Managers and the Virginia Society.
Davis will be presented with the award at a future chapter event, when he will receive a framed Silver Good Citizen medal and certificate in recognition of his noteworthy achievements within the local community.
