Faculty at Shenandoah University’s Eleanor Wade Custer School of Nursing have been busy this year, presenting at prominent conferences, co-editing a column in an important journal for nurse practitioners, representing the American Red Cross, and even getting accolades for a work of fiction.
Professor of Nursing Patricia Krauskopf, Ph.D., FNP-BC, FAANP presented “iPhone Application Countdown: Top Ten Apps for Nurse Practitioner Faculty” at the 42nd annual meeting of National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculty in Seattle, Washington on Friday, April 15. She received a faculty development grant from Shenandoah to support this presentation. Also, in January 2016, she became a co-editor of a recurring department column, “Mobile Apps for Nurse Practitioners,” in The Journal for Nurse Practitioners.
Assistant Professor of Nursing Brenda Johnston, DNP, PMHNP-BC, presented two podium presentations at the February 6 Virginia Nurses Association Conference titled, “Forensic Nursing and Collaborative Practice Models.” Dr. Johnston was also a featured speaker for the community health forum, “Community Health: It’s Not Someone Else’s Problem,” held at the Handley Library on March 22.
Professor of Nursing Pamela Cangelosi, PhD, RN, CNE, ANEF, with colleagues Christine Dinkins, Ph.D. and Jeanne Sorrell, Ph.D., RN, FAAN presented a symposium, “Socratic Pedagogy: An Ancient Approach Serves as a Catalyst for Teaching Critical Thinking,” at the 2016 National League for Nursing and Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Education Conference in Washington, D.C. in April 2016.
“The Wiregrass,” a novel written by Professor of Nursing Pam Webber, Ph.D., RN, FNP-C, won the bronze medal in the Independent Book Publishers Awards. Dr. Webber was also the keynote speaker at the Ladies Luncheon for the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival on April 29.
Assistant Professor of Nursing Kathleen Eid-Heberle, MSN, RN, CNE, was invited to represent the American Red Cross as a member of the Call-to-Action research team with the Veterans Emergency Management Evaluation Center. She was also selected to be an item writer for the new American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Healthcare Disaster Certification Examination.
