Above: Alumna Candice Hopkinson, ’06 took a “sock drive” created by Byrd School of Business Dean Miles Davis, Ph.D., on the road to Woodbridge, Virginia, on Aug. 20. The drive benefits the Winchester-based Families Reaching Out Group (F.R.O.G.), which assists children in need. While Hopkinson, right, playfully posed with yoga instructor Ebony Lambert of OneWithEBony yoga studio, the drive, held at the Potomac Town Center Starbucks store, was certainly no joke, producing more than 200 sock donations in three hours.
Harry F. Byrd, Jr. School of Business Dean Miles Davis, Ph.D., well-known around campus for not only his business expertise but also his love of creatively designed socks, in August issued a challenge to anyone interested in taking a “sock selfie” with him and his ever-noteworthy socks: they must “pay” for a sock selfie with a package or packages of socks/underwear for Froggy’s Closet in Winchester. Froggy’s Closet provides new and gently used items to children in need throughout the Winchester/Frederick County area. In a unique twist on traditional giving, the collection bins for items, which were placed outside of Davis’ office, are set to be auctioned off at a September “Abnormal Formal,” to benefit Froggy’s Closet’s parent organization, F.R.O.G., which will receive both the auction proceeds and the collected clothing.
Local business owner Joaquin Jackson, donated over 100 pairs of brand-new dress socks from his company Kenni&Elle. Jackson named his company after his two daughters, pictured with him here.
A laundry basket is filled to capacity with Kenni&ELLE socks. Visit the Kenni&Elle Facebook page for information about the company.
