Over the summer, Michael Christie ’17 won the prestigious lead trumpet spot in the Disneyland All-American College Band. Watch as Christie plays along with Wayne Bergeron, one of the world’s greatest trumpet players.
Christie is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies and studies trumpet with Professor of Trumpet and Conducting Scott Nelson, D.M.A.
In July, Shenandoah hosted the eighth annual National Jazz Workshop (NJW), a six-day intensive program that featuring nearly 100 participants from across the United States ranging in age from rising high school freshmen to adults. NJW offers a fully comprehensive curriculum for jazz studies, including improvisation, big band and small-group performance, composition, arranging, music recording and production, and instrumental masterclasses. The week also featured a host of afternoon and evening concerts in Armstrong Concert Hall, all of which were free and open to the public.
