Associate Professor, Voice (Baritone) and Musical Theatre Styles Specialist Matthew Edwards, D.M.A., is the vocal coach in residence for December for Voice Council Magazine.
Voice Council Magazine is the world’s leading online resource for gigging singers, featuring insights from Grammy-award winning coaches, audio technologists, singers and a host of well known music industry professionals.
The vocal coach in residence program is one in which the magazine selects “prestigious coaches from academic, medical and/or celebrity sectors to share their wisdom in a number of pieces with our online community, the largest online vocalist community worldwide,” said Gregory Barker, Ph.D., commissioning editor for Voice Council.
The magazine introduced Edwards to its readers on Dec. 1, with a great Q&A in which he reveals his favorite album (it might surprise you – maybe not), good luck charm, top recording tip, and so much more.
Edwards’ first post as the month’s vocal coach in residence, “Will a Voice Lesson Wreck My Natural Way of Singing?” speaks to the concerns of pop and rock singers, which is one of his areas of expertise. In his second post, he shares a great articulation exercise, complete with video:
