Shenandoah University’s baseball team snagged the nation’s top spot in the D3baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25 poll for Division III teams this spring. And, at the beginning of April, the team landed at No. 1 in the American Baseball Coaches Association Division III poll. The Hornets kicked off the spring 2017 season by equaling its best-ever start and winning 19 of its first 20 games, just like the program’s 2011 team, which was also held the No. 1 slot.
Shenandoah supplanted Emory University in the D3baseball.com/NCBWA poll on March 21.
“The recognition of being number one reflects upon the efforts of the players up to this point and is very flattering,” head coach Kevin Anderson said. “The challenge now is to improve in all phases of the game and to meet those challenges on a daily basis.”
Shenandoah remained in the D3baseball.com top spot through May 2, when it dropped to the third slot. Shenandoah held the top spot for a school-record six weeks.
