Assistant Professor of Music Therapy Bronwen Landless, M.M.T., MT-BC, was invited by the San Bernadino Children’s Network in California to present an all-day training on March 13, for 65 care providers of young children who have experienced trauma on how to use music effectively in their work. By engaging in this interactive lecture, experiential learning and small group discussions, participants developed knowledge about the impact of trauma on the developing brain, the impact of music on the brain and how/when to refer clients for music therapy services. While remaining in their own scope of practice, participants expanded their clinical skills to implement safe and relevant music interventions with young children who have experienced trauma. Participants also developed individualized self-care plans that may include self-care strategies involving music.
