Will commencement & hooding ceremonies be canceled?
Virginia’s stay-at-home order, which ends on June 10, extends past Shenandoah’s University Commencement date of May 16. However, please be assured that we WILL celebrate commencement with IN PERSON, ON CAMPUS, when it is safe to do so.
When will the in-person ceremony be held?
In-Person Ceremony | Sunday, October 18, 2020, at 10 am | Tentative, based on when a large celebration is deemed safe
We recently polled graduating students for their input, and a majority of the more than 500 respondents indicated that Homecoming Weekend in October would be the preferred time for Commencement 2020. We are planning to hold an in-person University Commencement Ceremony in the Wilkins Athletic and Event Center on Sunday, October 18, 2020, at 10 a.m.
We will also celebrate our August 2020 graduates on this date.
We are hopeful that such a celebration of several thousand people will be permitted at that time; more details will be forthcoming once public health officials indicate that we can move forward.
In the meantime, you may complete the Graduate RSVP form for our planning purposes.
When will the tickets be available for the October 18 Commencement?
More information will become available for ticketing this fall. Until then, the ticketing system will remain closed.
When will the virtual ceremony be held?
Virtual Recognition Ceremony | Saturday, May 16, 2020 at 10 am
We cannot let May 16 pass without celebration! Please plan to join us with your families and friends for a short-but-meaningful virtual commencement ceremony at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 16. More information on this university-wide virtual ceremony will be available soon.
Schools and programs that typically hold their own hoodings, pinnings, and other recognitions in addition to university commencement are scheduling those celebrations as works best for their students. Please look to hear from individual programs for those details.
Do I need to wear my regalia for the virtual May 16 event?
You do not need to wear your regalia for the May 16 livestream.
How can I receive my regalia?
Please complete the Regalia Request form to have regalia mailed to you. It is not possible to pick up regalia in-person at the university until students are permitted to return to campus.
How will I get my honor cords and/or stoles?
For those who have earned Latin honors, honor cords will also be mailed at the time your regalia is shipped.
For all other cords/stoles, students should contact the respective club/organization for more information.
Stoles are available to all graduating student-athletes who participated in intercollegiate athletics for at least two years including their senior year. They can either be mailed out to the student-athlete or held until the October 18 graduation ceremony.
Student-athletes that wish to have their stoles mailed should fill out the Google Form with all of the required information. The link for the Google Form can be obtained from a head coach or an athletics department administrator.
Student-athletes wishing to have their stoles held until October do not have to take any action at this time.
Do I have to pay for my regalia or shipping costs?
No, there is no cost to the graduate for these items or shipping.
How can I order my class ring, diploma frame, graduation announcements, or nursing pins?
You can order Shenandoah Commencement memorabilia from Herff Jones.
When will my degree be conferred?
The Registrar’s Office processes degree conferrals once all final grading functions are completed throughout the university. This may take several weeks following the end of the semester.
Diplomas are mailed to students about 6 weeks after the degree conferral if all academic and financial obligations have been met. Diploma name/address changes or questions can be submitted to Shenandoah’s Degree Conferral Specialist Valerie Taylor at email@example.com. Deadline for changes is May 1, 2020.
How can I order my transcript?
Graduating students can order transcripts at su.edu/transcript. Please mark your order as “hold for degree posted,” so the transcript will not be sent out until the degree is awarded.
Questions can be emailed to Shenandoah’s Transcript Processor Kathy Whitmer at firstname.lastname@example.org.
What should I do with my iMLearning equipment?
Students should have already received an email with instructions and information concerning your iMLearning equipment and graduation. If you have not, please email email@example.com with any questions regarding buyouts or removing the SU settings from your devices.
How do I share my post-graduation plans?
Graduates should complete The Outcomes Survey.
Whether you have already accepted a job or graduate school offer, have plans to start a business, will volunteer in the community or abroad, or are still defining your next steps, Career Services asks that all potential May graduates share information about their post-graduation plans using The Outcomes Survey. Completion of the survey will qualify you for a drawing to win a variety of prizes, including iPads and gift cards, and will provide Career Services with critical information necessary for career and academic advising, student recruitment, and institutional reporting needs. May 2020 graduates received an email requesting the completion of The Outcomes Survey.
Graduates should request their personalized link. The survey should take about five minutes; your name will not be associated with your responses in any public way, as Career Services will aggregate the information into reports containing no personal, identifiable information.
For questions or more information, please contact Career Services at firstname.lastname@example.org.
