Student safety has always been a high priority for Shenandoah University. In light of recent global incidents that have required various offices to verify the safety of students abroad, the Center for International Programs is implementing a cell phone policy to help ensure the wellbeing of our students, as well as bring peace of mind to parents and family.
Effective fall 2017, all students on an SU-sponsored program must bring with them, or intend to purchase upon arrival abroad, a cell phone that can exchange calls and texts with the staff at the Center for International Programs. CIP staff will collect student’s cell numbers via their online study abroad application and confirm with them via email or in person before they depart to their location abroad. This policy will help CIP account for students, either individually or in large groups, in the event of an emergency. Failure to secure a locally serviced phone plan during study abroad and/or failing to provide that information to CIP, will severely limit our ability to assist you in case of an emergency.
