Black Excellence Gala Award Nominations

Black Excellence Gala Award Nominations: Nominations can be submitted via Google Form by Shenandoah students, faculty, and staff as well as Winchester community members. Please read the descriptions thoroughly and be sure that the person you nominate is qualified for the award.
Nominations are due by midnight on Friday, April 8, 2022. Awards will be presented at the Black Excellence Gala on Friday, April 22, 2022 at 6 p.m.
Black Scholar of the Year Award – The Black Scholar of the Year is a student who has notable academic achievement and has been a driving force in their community through involvement or service. This student has demonstrated a high level of leadership and continues to give selflessly to their community and SU at large. This award is intended for a person who identifies as Black or from the African diaspora.
MVP Award – The MVP Award is for a student who has not only excelled in their commitment to Shenandoah Athletics and their respective sport but who has also been involved on campus outside of athletics. This award is intended for a person who identifies as Black or from the African diaspora.
New Student of the Year Award – The New Student of the Year is a first-year or transfer student who has demonstrated leadership and community service. This student serves as a role model for their peers based upon their academic achievement and continued success. This award is intended for a person who identifies as Black or from the African diaspora.
Pillar Award – The Pillar Award is for a faculty or staff member who has made a priceless investment in the success of Black student and students from the African diaspora at Shenandoah University. This person has committed time and effort to ensure that students are achieving academic success and have the foundation needed to be ethical, compassionate citizens after college.
Community Leadership Award – The Community Leadership Award is for a member of the local community who makes outstanding contributions to the Black/African diaspora community of the Winchester area. Through their efforts, this individual has created lasting change and measurable difference in our community and serves as a role model in community leadership.
