Founders’ Day
February 19 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
A Founders’ Day celebration for all! On Wednesday, Feb. 19, Shenandoah University will commemorate its founding at 4 p.m. in Alson H. Smith Jr. Library. This year marks the 150th anniversary of this pivotal moment in Shenandoah’s history.
On February 12, 1875, Rev. A.P. Funkhouser established a school in Dayton, Virginia and 11 students met for special study. This gathering laid the foundation for the vibrant university community we know today.
The event will feature a marching band performance, remarks from university leaders, and comments from History Professor Jonathan Noyalas ’01, M.A.; and plenty of swag and sweet treats for a sweet Shenandoah day! Wear your Shenandoah red and blue on what promises to be—as it always is—a great day to be a Hornet!
Be sure to follow Shenandoah’s social media channels for updates leading up to and on Founders’ Day. If you can’t attend in-person, watch the celebration live on the University’s YouTube channel. Keep an eye out for Founders’ Day pop-up celebrations at Shenandoah’s locations in Loudoun and the Health Professions Building.
