Mathemagic: Creating Illusions with Undergraduate Mathematics Topics
May 7 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Attend “Mathematics + Magic = Mathemagic” on Wednesday, May 7, from 7-8 p.m. in Halpin-Harrison Hall, Stimpson Auditorium. During this talk, attendees will explore several mathematical topics – from calculus to abstract algebra and beyond – using calculators, cards, and more while learning some basic misdirection and story writing to take a mathematical topic and create illusions, or what magician Garrett Thomas would call “artistic truth.” To quote Picasso’s “the lie that helps us reveal the truth,” this talk will explore how magic truly isn’t about fooling someone, but rather encouraging someone to think more deeply about that moment and the world around them.
There also will be senior poster presentations following the talk. Questions? Contact Dylan Walker at dwalker1@su.edu.
