McCormick Civil War Institute Exhibit Honors Art Professor and Her Husband

February 27, 2017 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

McCormick Civil War Institute Exhibit Honors Art Professor and Her Husband is from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the first floor of Davis Hall. Light refreshments and fellowship marks the official opening of an exhibition of  breathtaking photographs taken by Shenandoah Professor of Art Geraldine Kiefer, Ph.D., and her husband Bruce. This exhibit, in honor of Bruce’s memory, features stunning photography of various points on the Antietam National Battlefield. The battle of Antietam, fought on Sept. 17, 1862, marked the bloodiest single day in American history. The battle became the catalyst for President Abraham Lincoln to issue his preliminary Emancipation Proclamation five days after the battle. Among the first places Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation was enforced after it went into effect on Jan. 1, 1863, was Winchester. For more information, contact Director of the McCormick Civil War Institute Jonathan Noyalas, at jnoyalas01@su.edu.
