Abstract. As people, we experience and learn about the world around us every day. The concepts of science are of particular importance for all of us as we try to understand our world experiences. This presentation will explore the distinctions and requirements of true scientific inquiry as we learn about the world around us, and the ethical responsibility scientists have when sharing their observations and interpretations. It is also important for everyone to be able to distinguish general observations or pseudoscience from true scientific inquiry, e.g., does the Earth revolve around the Sun or does the Sun revolve around the Earth. This presentation will explore historic examples of how people developed the concepts that are incorporated in the standards of modern scientific inquiry in comparison to concepts that may become part of the human experience but are based on pseudoscience.
