SafeTALK
March 22 @ 1:00 pm - 4:30 pm
“SafeTALK” teaches participants to recognize and engage persons who might be having thoughts of suicide and to connect them with community resources specializing in suicide intervention. SafeTALK stresses safety while challenging taboos that inhibit open talk about suicide.
The program takes place on Friday, March 22, from 1-4:30 p.m. in the Cecil Pruitt, Jr. Health & Life Sciences Building, Rotunda.
Shenandoah Professor of Psychology Rodney Bragdon, Ph.D., will serve as facilitator. After the training, participants will be able to:
Challenge attitudes that inhibit open talk about suicide.
Recognize a person who might be having thoughts of suicide.
Engage them in direct and open talk about suicide.
Listen to the person’s feelings about suicide to show that they are taken seriously.
Move quickly to connect them with someone trained in suicide intervention.
Event is open to faculty, staff, and students. Register for this free event using this Google Form. Questions? Contact Dean of Students Suzanne O’Driscoll, D.Prof., at sodrisco09@su.edu.
