What’s The Story: How Writing Your Stories Become the Story of Your Life

March 27 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Director of Center for Story at Shenandoah Sean Murphy, M.A., is joined by Paula Whyman to discuss her new book, “Bad Naturalist: One Woman’s Ecological Education on a Wild Virginia Mountaintop.” The pair will also discuss storytelling both as a practical and spiritual path at the Center for Story Speaker Series on March 27 at 5 p.m. in Hazel-Pruitt Armory. Whyman’s new memoir is a compelling narrative about her experiences restoring retired farmland and what she discovered along the way, but also explores how curiosity, empathy, and creativity are integral to finding meaning and clarity in an increasingly busy, confusing, competitive world. Whyman has decades of experience as a writer, editor, mentor, and community organizer, and this conversation will explore how we can effectively combine passion with purpose. If you’re curious about the myriad paths storytellers can take to build a career and life based on creativity, this session is for you. As always, audience Q&A is encouraged and Beyond The Classroom credits apply! For more information, email Sean Murphy at CenterForStory@su.edu.
