Your Voice is Your Power – Advocacy

Your Voice is Your Power is an entire week of events hosted by a collaboration of the Mosaic Center, Active Minds, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia that focus on the . mental health of Shenandoah’s BIPOC (black, indigenous, and people of color) population. There will be a different event each night to raise awareness for BIPOC mental health, and to empower each other. Attendance at all virtual events is open to any students/faculty. Anyone attending an in-person event must follow Covid guidelines for the event (available on Engage). Please reach out to one of the host organizations with any questions or concerns, or if you’d like to attend any or all events.
Monday, 10/19 – Awareness
We will be hosting a trivia night over Zoom. Come join us to test your knowledge or raise awareness for mental health issues affecting BIPOC students, as well as the general population. Begins at 7 p.m.
Tuesday, 10/20 – Education
Join us over Zoom to receive free V.A.R training to help support a friend or loved one when they have a mental health situation. Learn how to be there for people you care about when they need help, even when they’re not going through a crisis. Begins at 7 p.m.
Wednesday, 10/21 – Advocacy
We will be making mental health awareness friendship bracelets. Join us to make a bracelet to help advocate for different mental health issues. Supplies can be picked up at the Brandt Student Center starting at 6 pm. The event will begin over Zoom at 7 p.m.
Thursday, 10/22 – Connection
We will be reciting mental health monologues. Come join us either at the amphitheater or over Zoom to hear the mental health stories of other members of the Shenandoah community. Begins at 6 p.m.
Friday, 10/23 – Community
We will be hosting a mindfulness relaxation hangout over Zoom. Come log on to just chill, celebrate the end of the week, and get to know other students. Begins at 7 p.m.
