Fields of Expertise:
Practice focus has been on community wellness with a concentration on prevention and living with chronic conditions. Clinical areas of occupational therapy specialization are in psychiatry throughout the lifespan and in gerontology. Specialty interests include mental health, dementia, and quality of life of cancer survivors.
Extensive academic experience at the graduate and undergraduate levels in both traditional campus programs and distance classrooms. Topics of lecturing expertise include health systems management; health policy analysis; strategic planning; group process and interpersonal effectiveness.
Professional Highlights:
With many years as an educator, manager, clinician, and advocate, Dr. Bloom has been recognized for identification of problems in complex systems and efficient practical solutions. Dr. Bloom has worked with a wide range of organizations and facilities providing administrative and clinical consultation, as well as providing medical facilities and mental health agencies with occupational therapy direct service intervention and assessment. The breadth of her experience is far-ranging: from elder wellness programs to youth social service agencies and specialty schools, and from acute psychiatric and medical facilities to community day programs.
Research:
Dr. Bloom is a longstanding member on the editorial board of WORK, an international peer-reviewed journal.
She has authored chapters for textbooks on the specialty topic of medical ethics: Occupational Therapy Essentials for Clinical Competence (edition 1, 2, and 3); Functions of a Manager in Occupational Therapy.

Personal Highlights:
Joined Shenandoah University to teach for the MSOT Program during the Spring 2022 semester, and added teaching for the OTD Program the following year.
