New Employee, no problem! Take a look at the resources below to get yourself off and running here at SU.
Shenandoah University uses Google Apps for Education for a variety of purposes. All faculty and staff members receive a Google account when hired. This account is used for a variety of services, though primarily for Email, Calendar, and file storage in Google Drive. Any Google service can be used with your SU credentials.
If you have never logged into your SU email, you can follow these instructions to set up you SU email account. There are a plethora of ways to set up your email, and we are happy to help you with setting up filters and labels as well as organizational techniques. Contact the IC Help Desk for more information.
Google Calendar is the default calendar for all SU faculty and staff. By default, your calendar is set to show other members of the SU community when you are busy. People cannot see what is on your calendar, but rather just that you have something scheduled. You can also look at other people’s calendars by searching their email address in the “Other Calendars” section of Google Calendar.
SU Network Accounts
SUNet ID & Password
Your SUnet ID & password is one of the most commonly used logins across campus. You will use this to connect to the wireless network (1SU), log in into Canvas, access printers, log in to podium computers, WebAdvisor, etc.. For security purposes, we do require all faculty and staff to change their password every 6 months. You can easily change your password using the IC Password Reset Tool found at passwordreset.su.edu. You must have registered a third party email address in order to use the password reset tool. You can do that at passwordregistration.su.edu.
WebAdvisor is where employees go to access their paystubs and W2s. You can access your W2s online using as long as you give your consent to receive them electronically. This can be done by logging into WebAdvisor, clicking on Employees, then W2 Electronic Consent. You only have to do this once. After you have given your consent, at the end of January when W2s come out, you can log into WebAdvisor to access your W2. WebAdvisor also keeps a history of your W2s so that you can access them on demand as you need them.
WebAdvisor is also where students go to view/accept their financial aid, see information in their student account, register for classes, etc.. Faculty advising is also done from within WebAdvisor.
Canvas is where students go to access their course content and view other SU related services. Faculty and staff use Canvas as well.
Shenandoah University uses e2campus alerts to notify students of emergencies, inclement weather and other important information. Once signed up, you can add a telephone number to receive text messages of the alerts. They will also be emailed to your SU email address. You can also add multiple people to the account if you would like to add a family member. It is VITAL that all faculty and staff sign up for this service.
Backup Your Data
Backing up your data is an essential every day task that all employees must be conscientious about. There are several methods for backing up your important files. If you have any questions about backing up your data, you can contact the Help Desk at any time.
All employees have a personal network folder created for them upon hire. This is the most secure place to store information as it is located behind the SU Firewall. On a Windows computer, this is located within the H: Drive – Users Folder. There are also departmental folders that everyone in your department has access to. This access varies and depends on what rights have been given to you within your department. This departmental folder can be found by going to the H Drive and clicking on Dept. On a Mac computer, the process is the same, with the exception of the H Drive being named Admin.
As a member of Google Apps for Education, members of SU have UNLIMITED storage in Google Drive. It is recommended that you download and install the Google Drive application to your computer so that you can easily backup all of your files online. This is a great way to ensure that your files are safe in the event that you have computer failure. Contact the IC Help Desk for more information.
Time Machine (Mac only)
If you have an external hard drive, Time Machine is a great option for backing up your computer. Once turned on, Time Machine works in the background saving all of your important files on your computer.
