On Friday, December 6, 2019, Shenandoah University held its 5th Annual Innovations in Advanced Practice Nursing Research Conference at the Brandt Student Center . The first keynote speaker, Dr. Kathy Chappell, spoke on “ Leadership in Promoting Inter-professional Collaboration and Practice Improvement. Dr. Chappell is Senior VP, Accreditation, Certification, Measurement and Institute for Credentialing Research at the ANCC. This was followed by research poster presentations by graduate nursing students. Dean of the Eleanor Wade Custer School of Nursing, Dr. Kathleen LaSala, gave a Dean’s welcome and overview of the great successes within the SON. She also shared some of her own personal research stories of when she was in grad school.
The afternoon session began with keynote speaker, Dr. Lora Peppard, speaking on “Creating Your Own Chopin Nocturne in Nursing: Integrating the Evidence while Honoring the Immeasurable.” Dr. Peppard is Associate Deputy Director for Treatment & Prevention for the Washington/Baltimore High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area.
