|Associate Professor of Music History and Literature Laurie McManus leads us in a legacy celebration of German composer Johannes Brahms on the 125th anniversary of his death with performances of his works by Shenandoah Conservatory music students and faculty. Highlights include excerpts from the rarely heard Missa Canonica and the String Sextet No. 2 in G Major, op. 36.
This special concert is presented in connection with her book “Brahms in the Priesthood of Art: Gender and Art Religion in the Nineteenth-Century German Musical Imagination,” published by Oxford University Press in January 2021.
