Creativity, theatricality and virtuosity have long defined the musical adventures of two-time Grammy Award-winning soprano, songwriter and actress Hila Plitmann. With a “wondrous voice, which gleams in all registers” (Gramophone), she brings her emotionally charged fearlessness, unique expressivity and mesmerizing drama to Bright Box in a collaborative new music event with the EDGE Ensemble.

Lean In & Engage
EDGE Ensemble: A Unique Student & Faculty Collaboration
The EDGE Ensemble is a mixed faculty/student ensemble. In addition to collaborating with our guest artist, our instrumental and vocal students will be performing alongside faculty members Craig Friedrich, Matt Niess and Colin Davin.
Q: What are students learning or experiencing through this process?
“The EDGE Ensemble provides our students with a unique experience playing new and contemporary music outside common practice. Every show is different, featuring varied and ever-changing combinations of instrumentations, styles and musical languages.”
– Jonathan Newman, director
Q: What excites you about working on this program?
“I’m excited that this show will be even more different than our usual EDGE production: working in “song sets” the ensemble will basically be acting as Hila’s backup band; the experience should be a seamless show and with the music Hila brings with her, musically unique for us!”
– Jonathan Newman, director
Q: What are you excited about for audiences to experience?
“Hila performs some spectacular one-woman pieces, and REALLY fun arrangements of pop songs . . . plus we’ll be performing a exciting brand-new work by a young composer for soprano and brass band!”
– Jonathan Newman, director
Bright Box Theater: Cocktail table seating. Doors open at 7PM for food and drink service.
