World of the Piano
Angela Cheng and Alvin Chow are a distinguished piano duo celebrated for their dynamic performances and exceptional artistry. With impressive careers that have taken them around the world, the duo captivates audiences with their synchronicity and expressive interpretations.
Praised for her brilliant technique, tonal beauty and superb musicianship, Canadian pianist Angela Cheng is one of her country’s national treasures. She has performed with more than 100 orchestras and at prestigious venues worldwide, earning accolades such as a Gold Medal at the Arthur Rubinstein International Piano Masters Competition and the Medal of Excellence from the Salzburg Mozarteum. Educated at Indiana University and the Juilliard School, Cheng is the Robert R. Wheeler Professor of Piano at Oberlin Conservatory, where she won the 2011/12 Excellence in Teaching Award.
American pianist Chow, a Miami native, has performed across North America and Asia, appearing as a soloist with the National Symphony Orchestra, Colorado Symphony, Shanghai Philharmonic, and the Mozarteum Orchestra in Salzburg, among others. A graduate of University of Maryland and the Juilliard School, he has taught at numerous institutions and festivals worldwide. At Oberlin since 1999, he currently serves as the Chair of the Piano Department and received the 2016 Excellence in Teaching Award.
Together, Cheng and Chow have received acclaim for their seamless ensemble and nuanced performances, making each concert an unforgettable experience.

Piano Masterclass

Observe the guest artists as they work with Shenandoah Conservatory piano students. Masterclasses are typically held on the Monday following each World of the Piano performance from 10AM to noon. Limited seating is open to the public for quiet observation. Please arrive by 9:45AM.
