by Sophocles
Translation by Don Taylor
The riveting tale of Antigone tells the story of a city torn apart by civil war and a ruler desperate for control. Creon, in a bid to assert his power, decrees that the body of Antigone’s rebellious brother shall remain unburied. Outraged by this injustice, Antigone defies her uncle’s edict, leading to her condemnation to be buried alive. The people remain silent, but the prophet Teiresias forewarns that Creon’s tyranny will incur the wrath of the gods, as the unburied corpse is a blight upon the city. As Creon wavers, his tragic fate is sealed. Directed by Aubrey Deeker Hernandez, this powerful production delves deep into themes of power, defiance and divine retribution.
