SUMMARY:Volterra Project Trio
DESCRIPTION:BIKEncerto: a concerto for solo bicycle and orchestra\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGoodson Chapel – Recital Hall \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGuest Artist Recital\n\n\n\nExperience the captivating artistry of the Volterra Project Trio in concert at Shenandoah Conservatory. Featuring internationally acclaimed musicians from the celebrated Volterra Project\, this dynamic ensemble brings together the rich sounds of the guitar in an evening of imaginative and genre-spanning chamber music. With a program that blends classical tradition with contemporary flair\, the trio promises a performance that is both intimate and exhilarating. \n\n\n\nFascinated by the storytelling power of the classical guitar\, the Volterra Project Trio explores narration without words. \n\n\n\nWith their new album Parole in Musica\, Antigoni Goni\, Luca Isolani and Maarten Vandenbemden bring their full range of color and expression to a program of music inspired by stories from stage\, screen and literature\, beginning with Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet retold through Leonard Bernstein’s brilliant score as a tragedy on the streets of New York’s West Side\, and ending with Grieg’s incidental music to scenes from the exotic travels of Ibsen’s antihero Peer Gynt. Along the way\, we hear Luca Isolani’s own Note fuori campo (a homage to Nino Rota)\, the enchanted world of children’s stories brought to life in Ravel’s Mother Goose suite\, and two songs from Pornography\, a provocative musical by the Greek cultural icon — and iconoclast — Manos Hadjidakis. \n\n\n\nRecorded by British sound engineer John Taylor and distributed by NAXOS records\, Parole in Musica was released on all streaming platforms in May 2025. \n\n\n\nThis performance is presented in partnership with Marlow Guitar International. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDigital Program\n\n\n\nShenandoah Conservatory uses digital programs for all performances. Former BBC New Generation Artists and recipients of the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant\, quartet members have captivated audiences across the globe\, from their regular appearances at London’s Wigmore Hall and the BBC Proms at Cadogan Hall to their designation as Season Artists with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in New York. \n\n\n\nKnown for its seamless ensemble work and emotionally rich interpretations\, Escher brings both technical mastery and expressive depth to a wide range of repertoire. Featuring Mozart’s radiant String Quartet No. 16 in E-flat Major\, K. 428; Barber’s stunning String Quartet in B Minor\, op. 11; and Dvořák’s warm and lyrical String Quartet No. 13 in G Major\, op. 106\, Escher presents a thoughtfully curated evening that highlights the group’s versatility and brilliance across centuries of string quartet literature. \n\n\n\nThis special performance also welcomes a new face to our community: cellist Brook Speltz\, a core member of the quartet\, will be in residence this spring as a member of our conservatory faculty. \n\n\n\nJoin us for a luminous evening of chamber music — and a powerful reflection of the extraordinary artists and visionaries inspiring our students and shaping the future of our field. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nI’m delighted and honored to welcome my colleagues in Escher String Quartet to Shenandoah Conservatory!
