SUMMARY:CONTRA-TIEMPO
DESCRIPTION:Lucía\n\n\n\n\n\n\nShingleton Dance Space \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWork in Progress: Roots of Loving Us\n\n\n\nSome creative works come together quickly\, like a spark catching fire. Others take years to take root and grow — expanding across time and location. Join us as we culminate a creative residency with LA-based activist dance company CONTRA-TIEMPO and share excerpts from their newest work in progress. Roots of Loving Us is a multi-year community engagement\, collaborative research project and performance created by holly johnston of Responsive Body and Ana María Álvarez\, artistic director of CONTRA-TIEMPO. \n\n\n\nInspired by the idea of chosen families\, the new work uses somatic healing and ancestral technologies of dance\, music and imagery to present narratives of adoption\, foster care and bioadaptive families. Through community collaborations\, such as their work with Music Therapy students at Shenandoah Conservatory; cross-sensory experiences; and innovative production elements\, this work is a testament to lives transformed by the choice to love forever. \n\n\n\nThis event is presented by Performing Arts Live in partnership with the Shenandoah Conservatory music therapy program. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDigital Program\n\n\n\nShenandoah Conservatory uses digital programs for all performances. In addition to their engaging and accessible design\, digital programs are cost effective\, environmentally friendly and enable us to create and update our programs more efficiently\, which means we can focus our resources on the performances you love! SUMMARY:Escher String Quartet
DESCRIPTION:Lucía\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArmstrong Concert Hall \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRecognized for their profound musical insight and rare tonal beauty\, Escher String Quartet is one of the most celebrated chamber ensembles of its generation. Former BBC New Generation Artists and recipients of the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant\, quartet members have captivated audiences across the globe\, from their regular appearances at London’s Wigmore Hall and the BBC Proms at Cadogan Hall to their designation as Season Artists with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center in New York. \n\n\n\nKnown for its seamless ensemble work and emotionally rich interpretations\, Escher brings both technical mastery and expressive depth to a wide range of repertoire. Featuring Mozart’s radiant String Quartet No. 16 in E-flat Major\, K. 428; Barber’s stunning String Quartet in B Minor\, op. 11; and Dvořák’s warm and lyrical String Quartet No. 13 in G Major\, op. 106\, Escher presents a thoughtfully curated evening that highlights the group’s versatility and brilliance across centuries of string quartet literature. \n\n\n\nThis special performance also welcomes a new face to our community: cellist Brook Speltz\, a core member of the quartet\, will be in residence this spring as a member of our conservatory faculty. \n\n\n\nJoin us for a luminous evening of chamber music — and a powerful reflection of the extraordinary artists and visionaries inspiring our students and shaping the future of our field. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nI’m delighted and honored to welcome my colleagues in Escher String Quartet to Shenandoah Conservatory! My own work with these wonderful students this semester and their passion has inspired me beyond words. I’m excited to have my colleagues share their experiences\, knowledge and unyielding zest for music with the conservatory both through workshops during the day and a public performance in the evening. We have a great program and would love to see everyone there!” \n\n\n\n– Brook Speltz\, Visiting Adjunct Assistant Professor of Cello \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“…eloquent\, full-blooded playing… The four players offer a beautiful blend of individuality and accord”– BBC Music Magazine \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“A fascinating snapshot of American quartets\, with a recording that is brilliantly detailed\, this is a first-rate release all around”– Strad Magazine \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDigital Program\n\n\n\nShenandoah Conservatory uses digital programs for all performances.
