DESCRIPTION:SSMT: Beautiful: The Carole King Musical\n\n\n\n\n\n\nArmstrong Concert Hall \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTimothy J. Robblee\, Artistic Director & Conductor \n\n\n\nMusic without Borders\n\n\n\nA powerful evening of music shaped by history\, displacement and artistic resilience begins with Kurt Weill’s Kleine Dreigroschenmusik\, a spirited suite drawn from The Threepenny Opera that blends cabaret flair with biting satire from a German émigré who became an American icon. The program continues with Gustav Holst’s majestic “Jupiter” from The Planets\, a work of sweeping grandeur by a British composer of German descent who changed his name during World War I amid rising anti-German sentiment. \n\n\n\nOffering a contemporary perspective\, Hymn of the Fallen by Erik Ruane ’27 (Bachelor of Music in Composition)\, winner of the 2025 William Averitt Prize for Excellence in Composition\, reflects on themes of loss and remembrance. The evening culminates in Paul Hindemith’s Symphony in B-flat for Band\, a cornerstone of the wind repertoire composed after Hindemith fled Nazi Germany for the United States. \n\n\n\nTogether\, these works form a compelling tribute to the enduring power of music across borders\, eras and identities. \n\n\n\n\nDigital Program\n\n\n\nShenandoah Conservatory uses digital programs for all performances. SUMMARY:Our Lady of 121st Street
DESCRIPTION:SSMT: Beautiful: The Carole King Musical\n\n\n\n\n\n\nGlaize Studio Theatre \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThursday\, April 23 at 7:30PMFriday\, April 24 at 7:30PMSaturday\, April 25 at 2:30PMSaturday\, April 25 at 7:30PMSunday\, April 26 at 2:30PM \n\n\n\nWritten by Stephen Adly Guirgis \n\n\n\nDirected by Scott Hudson \n\n\n\nThe Ortiz Funeral Room is in chaos: the body of beloved community activist and nun Sister Rose has been stolen\, leaving a group of former neighborhood schoolmates — now hardened by life and haunted by the past — to wrestle with grief\, secrets and uncertain futures. Directed by Scott Hudson\, this darkly insightful and sharply funny comedy brings together twelve unforgettable characters each teetering on the edge of revelation — from Rooftop\, a wildly popular but chronically unfaithful LA DJ desperate to make amends with the love of his life; to Pinky and Edwin\, two brothers forever bound by tragedy; to the fiery Norca\, who expects forgiveness from her best friend Inez after having slept with Inez’s husband fifteen years earlier. \n\n\n\nAs tensions rise and truths unravel\, this irreverent yet deeply human ensemble confronts rage\, pain and the raw need to finally come clean — perhaps for the very first time. \n\n\n\nSuggested Show Rating: R \n\n\n\nThis production contains strong language\, including the use of slurs\, and mature themes. The play includes references to graphic violence\, sexual acts\, death\, discrimination and religious themes. It also features simulated smoking\, drugs and drinking.
