If you have a passion for helping others and an interest in health professions, consider a career in respiratory care.
Respiratory therapists are vital members of the health care team, serving in hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, physicians’ offices and home health agencies. Respiratory therapists care for their patients by integrating advanced technology, helping them to breathe easier, better and longer.
Shenandoah University’s program in Respiratory Care has been in existence longer than any other program in the state of Virginia, and is one of only two bachelor’s degrees offered in Virginia. The Division of Respiratory Care makes earning a degree convenient by offering a transfer track where students may transfer their associate degree or credit hours into the bachelor of science in Respiratory Care degree. Shenandoah students receive a comprehensive education in a state-of-the-art laboratory and benefit from the university’s close relationship with the Winchester Medical Center and hospitals in northern Virginia for their clinical opportunities.
What Our Students Say:
I chose SU because of their strong reputation in the health sciences and the ease of transferring my associates degree from community college. The Respiratory Care program is small enough that the instructors have time to spend with you one on one. The rigorous program was comprehensive and well rounded. I was well prepared for boards, and had a job offer before graduation!”
-Jenny Harrison, BS, RRT ’17
I chose SU since it was the only respiratory program that offered a bachelor’s degree and for the ease of travel to the satellite campus from my house. The program was great due to the excellent staff. I felt they were very passionate, knowledgeable, and approachable for help. Compared the previous University I attended, I was more confident upon graduation due to the information and advice they gave me which helped me to be more successful including the experience from our clinical hours at nearby and well known hospitals. Thanks to SU I am now a registered respiratory therapist and would definitely suggest this program to anyone interested in this field.”
-Mark Celenski, BS, RRT ’16
