Sharen Gromling serves as the Executive Director of Our Health, Inc., an area non-profit dedicated to improving the health of our community. Her specific responsibilities include managing the 70,000 square foot Kendall Community Campus buildings and grounds which includes office space for twenty area non-profits; writing and administering grants for our non-profit partners; training and technical assistance; and connecting volunteers through our Volunteer Action Center. She was responsible for starting the Our Health’s Healthy Living and Farmers’ Market Events on the campus in 2011. These events have been recognized by the American Hospital Association in their Community Connections publication entitled “Ideas and Innovations for Hospital Leaders.”
Prior to this appointment in April 2010, Sharen served as the Director of Administration and Human Resources for the City of Winchester municipal government beginning in 1980, a position she held until her retirement in 2009. She was responsible for all human resource functions for the City’s 500 employees and oversaw the City’s public information, employee development and training functions. She obtained her bachelors and masters degrees in Psychology from the University of Richmond where she graduated with honors.
Sharen is a frequent lecturer and trainer in human resource management, team building and leadership. She has conducted numerous workshops and retreats on such topics as Valuing Diversity, Ethics, Strategic Planning, Customer Service, Team Building, and Leadership. She served as a consultant and trainer for the International Association of Chiefs of Police, International City Managers Association and Executive Council member for the International Personnel Management Association. She is a charter member and Past-President of the Winchester Area Society of Human Resource Management and the Virginia Chapter of International Personnel Management Association.
Her civic duties include serving on Executive Boards of the Shenandoah University Center for Public Service and Scholarship, the Virginia Youth Ballet, and the Community Wellness Festival, Vice President of the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival, and Past President for the Rotary Club of Winchester.
She is married to Tom Gromling, an area dentist, and they have two children.
