A Stellar Graduation: Shenandoah University 2020 Virtual Commencement Highlights

Shenandoah University celebrated its first virtual commencement on Saturday, May 16, in a program that featured plenty of well-wishes from not only university leadership but also special guests including Virginia Governor Ralph Northam; Virginia U.S. Senator Mark Warner; “Shark Tank” star, FUBU co-founder and upcoming business symposium speaker Daymond John; paralympic medalist Rob Jones; Harlem Globetrotters players Big Easy Lofton and Handles Franklin; and public radio legend Diane Rehm. All expressed pride in the accomplishments of the SU Class of 2020 and hope for graduates’ futures. Shenandoah University President Tracy Fitzsimmons, Ph.D., also announced at the virtual event that the university has purchased a bright star in the Taurus constellation and named it for the Class of 2020, reflecting how all of its members, true to the legend of the word Shenandoah, are “sons and daughters of the stars.” Shenandoah aims to celebrate the Class of 2020 again in October, with an in-person graduation, if such an event can be safely held.
