Shenandoah Conservatory hosted the Essentially Ellington Regional High School Band Festival in January. Essentially Ellington is a program of Jazz at Lincoln Center. It provides high school jazz bands of all levels the opportunity to perform the music of Duke Ellington and other seminal big band composers and arrangers. At Shenandoah, there was also the opportunity to perform the works of Winchester-born bassist and sextet leader, John Kirby. Happily, Shenandoah is set to host the festival again.
