The Harold “Hal” Herman Lab Theater

The late Harold “Hal” Herman influenced generations of Shenandoah Conservatory students in his 33 years as a professor of theatre and delighted untold numbers of audience members as the founder and artistic director of the Shenandoah Summer Music Theatre. The legacy of Hal, who passed away in January 2016 at the age of 83, is present in every one of his students, and now Shenandoah intends to continue his legacy of education and artistry through the Harold Herman Lab Theatre, which will transform the conservatory’s “Green Room” into a flexible theatre and 21st-century classroom space with state-of-the-art technology and equipment. It will support a new level of instruction and excellence in musical theatre, acting for stage and digital media/film, and lighting and theatre design. It will also serve as Shenandoah’s first performance space dedicated to student theatre productions, offering advanced film and video production capability for student-centered work, industry-standard rigging infrastructure, and state-of-the-art lighting controls. Please support the continuation of Hal’s legacy by helping us develop this space. Learn more, and give at su.edu/conservatory/faculty-staff/we-remember-hal/.
