Shenandoah Conservatory kicked off its 2018-19 academic year with the 13th Annual Conservatory Convocation, which welcomes students with an array of music, theatre and dance performances showcasing the conservatory’s student artists. This year, iconic singer, composer and music advocate, Ysaÿe Barnwell, Ph.D., who was a key member of the African-American a cappella ensemble Sweet Honey in the Rock from 1979 to 2013, served as special guest speaker. Dr. Barnwell encouraged students to do something very simple, but very meaningful: to say yes to the opportunities and challenges they encounter.
