Park researchers are undertaking long-term ecological monitoring to better understand and manage the property’s ecosystems.
Hours of operation: Open all year except when snow, ice, or fallen trees block access. Admission is charged upon entry.
Directions to Shenandoah National Park:
From Winchester, take I-81 south to I-66 east toward Front Royal. Follow the signs to Skyline Drive and Shenandoah National Park via U.S. Route 340. Further south, park access can be gained via:
* U.S. Route 211 between Luray and Sperryville (take I-81 exit 264 at New Market)
* U.S. Route 33 between Elkton and Gordonsville (take I-81 exit 247 at Harrisonburg)
* Interstate 64 between Waynesboro and Charlottesville (take I-81 exit 221 at Staunton)
