Shockey’s Knob can be reached by a 6.4-mile circuit hike along a lightly used set of trails near Shockeysville, Virginia. This hike through an oak-hickory forest is rated as moderate; it offers views through trees from a rocky summit ridge. Along the way, this route passes Shockey’s Knob Shelter and a natural spring.
The trail circuit starts at the Mill Race connector trail to the Tuscarora Trail. It follows the ridgeline to High Rock. Shockey’s Knob loop is located within Sleepy Creek Wildlife Management Area, which is covered primarily by oak and pine forests.

From Winchester, follow I-81 North for 16 miles to Exit 5 in West Virginia. Exit onto WV Route 51, and turn left onto Gerrardstown Road. In 5 miles, turn left onto Apple Harvest Drive. Keep right onto Historic Packhorse Trail road. The trailhead is 0.6 miles straight ahead.
