About Santa Girl

Santa Girl is the story of a slimmed-down and all-business Santa who hasn’t recovered from the loss of his wife, Mrs. Claus. The story will focus on his daughter’s desire to attend college despite her father’s misgivings. After Santa eventually relents, Cassie must navigate a strange new world while keeping the identity of her iconic father — and her own magic — a secret.

Tony Award-winning actor Barry Bostwick, known for his roles as Brad Majors in the cult classic film, “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” the mayor in the 1996–2002 television series “Spin City,” and in the show “Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce,” as well as Broadway’s original Danny Zuko in “Grease,” will star as Santa Claus in the film, “Santa Girl,” which is being co-produced by Capital Arts Entertainment and Shenandoah University. Jennifer Stone, known for her role as Harper in Disney Channel’s “Wizards of Waverly Place,” plays Santa’s daughter in the film, as the “Santa Girl” of the title. Adjunct Assistant Professor of Theatre Hank Stone, M.F.A., and sophomore acting student Josh Cody are also principal cast members in the film. See the full cast on IMDB.

Shooting a movie on a college campus is nothing new. But a university serving as co-producer of a movie is groundbreaking. There are 62 students involved in the project, serving as a majority of the cast and crew. This is unheard of in academia!

The university has a deal with Capital Arts Entertainment to get this, and other future films off the ground as part of the new film program here at Shenandoah University. The group has produced numerous successful films and TV shows and is a substantial distributor of independent films. Capital Arts founders Mike Elliott, Rob Kerchner and Joe Genier are, like Shenandoah co-producer and Distinguished Adjunct Assistant Professor of Music Production and Recording Technology and Film Studies Lecturer Paul DiFranco, veterans of famed director Roger Corman’s entertainment production and distribution company Concorde-New Horizons. DiFranco and Elliott worked diligently over the course of a year to create this one-of-a-kind opportunity that allows Shenandoah students to learn through the hands-on experience of creating a commercial motion picture.

Barry Bostwick was on-set in Winchester in late-October 2017. Jennifer Stone will be on-set from late-October through mid-November.

Post-production was completed on-campus by students and faculty through spring semester 2018.

Thank you to these Winchester community members who have donated and helped with the movie!
