SUN-e Shenandoah University News

Photo of the Day

The [Not Just] Women's Center presented "The Laramie Project" on March 4 and 5. In October 1998, a gay 21-year-old student at the University of Wyoming was kidnapped, severely beaten and left to die, tied to a fence in the middle of the prairie outside Laramie, Wyoming. Matthew Shepard's bloody, bruised and battered body was not discovered until the next day, and he died several days later in an area hospital. These performances of "The Laramie Project" were a benefit for The Matthew Shepard Foundation. The Casper, Wyoming-based foundation is an LGBT nonprofit organization, founded by Dennis and Judy Shepard in December 1998, in memory of their son. The Matthew Shepard Foundation runs education, outreach and advocacy programs. The two performances at Shenandoah University raised $641 for the foundation. (PHOTOS: Sarah Celec)
